Juvenile murmur

Sonopath Forum

I don’t do much echo, especially for congenital defects, but I told the requesting vet I’d see what I could tell her and they would need to follow up with a cardiologist for more details.

-12 week old Keeshond puppy, littermate “died of a heart defect” per the owner

-requesting vet possibly heard soft murmur, mostly on left.  I did not get a chance to auscult.

-Entire cardiac exam appears normal with the exception of the pulmonary artery.

-I see turbulence but was not able to find increased velocities across the valve or regurgitant jets.

-Is this significant for this puppy?

Thanks!

Although I would be happy to

Although I would be happy to hear from a cardiologist, I am also glad to get opinions from others as well. The color makes me think pulmonic stenosis but that doesn’t make sense to me without increased velocities.  Is there DRVOTO in dogs?  As I said, my congenital cardiology experience  is limited.

thanks!

Normal laminar flow on the PA

Normal laminar flow on the PA and normal evelocities. Your color is turbulent because your PRF is low. Should be about 85-95 for the color flow prf. The murmur is not on the PA though with that clean spectral flow of 120 cm/sec

Ok, thanks for the

Ok, thanks for the information.  I thought 77 would work but that is good information to know.  That makes sense with the rest of the exam.

Faint murmur in a young dog

Faint murmur in a young dog dog could be physiological.

I would wait a couple of months and recheck and see if the murmur resolves.
