Five days ago, owner noted vaginal swelling and bleeding.  Bleeding lasted 2-3 days, then started having yellowish discharge in “significant amount” (enough to motivate the owner to place a disposable diaper on pet).  Six months ago was pet’s first heat cycle.  She is bright, non-febrile, normal CBC.  Vaginal exam = swollen, I did not find any discharge at the time of the exam.

The uterine body wall appears thickened, both uterine horns appear normal and contain no fluid.  Seems like an unusual history with the two types of discharge so close together.  I’ve suggested vaginal cytology and a progesterone level as next steps.  Would love any advice!
