Shoulder ultrasound

  • 3 year old Larger Terrier with chronic right FL lameness, pain medial shoulder
  • I am new to musculoskeletal ultrasound
  • Do you think there is a small hypoechoic lesion in the supraspinatus tendon +/or the biceps tendon, any excessive sheath fluid?
  • Any tips for doing a good examination?

Not bad for a start at all! I

Not bad for a start at all! I use and teach a standardized protocol which facilitates the remote assessment and the accurate assessment in general. Anyway from what I can tell the SST and attachment look normal to me and there appears to be mild effusion and synovial thickening of the bicewps tendon sheath. Full assessment usually requires bilateral scanning and some more views but this is as far as we can get here.

I’m stateside for an MSK US course in Toronto in October and we will offer an introduction to MSK US in November in NJ in case you are interested.
