Savannah cat echo

Savannah cat echo

I have been asked to do an echo on a Savannah breed kitten to look for HCM. The owner is a breeder. For this one, I am highly recommending sending the images to cardiologist for review, not becuase I think the echo is going to be difficult, but mostly because this is a breeder!

I was wondering if anyone has any experience with this breed and HCM and if so, I would assume if the kitten is clear of HCM now, it does not mean he won’t develop it in the future or pass it on to offspring if hereditary?

If on the echo there is no

If on the echo there is no evidence of cardiomyopathy, all you can state  is that although cardiomyopathy is not present, this  does not rule out that the cat may still carry the defect gene(s) and thus may develop HCM it in the future and possibly pass it on to its offspring.

Remo described it perfectly.
Remo described it perfectly. I have seen normal 6 month olds develop HCM later so its not like an SAS or PS or PDA screening…. more like a PKD screening where they get more cysts as they develop.
