Heartworm positive dog

  • 5 year old FS German Shepherd tested antigen positive twice for HW disease.  She is not on preventative.
  • The patient is asymptomatic.  No microfilaria seen.
  • Echo shows normal cardiac measurements, no valvular insufficiencies, and normal size right heart.
  • There is a “railroad” echogenic lesion attached to the septal wall, extending into the right ventricular lumen.
  • Is this just an artifact or could this be an adult heartworm?
