this is a 14 wk old chihuahua the owner took in from a breeder. she noticed him regurgitating food and mucous.he is 2.8 lbs .his body condition is lean but not thin. lungs wnl. heart wnl. we were suspcious and took plain films followed by barium. we think this is less likely a vascular anomaly more likely”other”. we need some insight on what we see and what best next step with imaging.thanks

Looks like congenital
Looks like congenital mega-esophagus. Not a vascular anomaly as the whole esophagus is affected. Can consider fluroscopy to see if there is any motility but will not change the diagnosis or management
AnToo young for a GES fb but
AnToo young for a GES fb but maybe a stricture? Ill see if Nele can pop in after her lectures in Copenhagen this weekend.
Thanks I was considering
Thanks I was considering fluroscopy but not worth the investment then. Would endoscopy be useful to rule out stricture of some sort although again would there be a treatment option?
No PRAA without a stricture
No PRAA without a stricture and a pouch. And there are none. Other vascular anomalies such as double arches and aberrant subclavia would also present a stenosis. Most likely congenital megaesophagus & dysmotility. fluoro/endoscopy very likely won’t change anything
Thanks! Bummer!!
