Doberman Dilated Cardiomyopathy

Doberman Dilated Cardiomyopathy

I have a quick question. Is concentric hypertrophy of the L ventricle a finding

in dilated cardiomyopatahy of the Doberman or should I be searching for another cause for the underlying

pathophysiology? I always thought I would see eccentric hypertrophy.

I know it probably wont change my treatment protocol at this point- but I was just curious.

HI!

No, as you say, it has to be eccentric hypertrophy. Concentric hypertrophy is either pressure overload (aortic stenosis, systemic hypertension, coarctation of the aorta) or pseudo-hypertrophy due to de-hydration. I had a couple of Dobermans who came dehydrated for a breeding exam. Maybe to owners thought that this would decrease the likelyhood to diagnose DCM 🙂

Best wishes
