Extra-hepatic bile duct obstruction from mass at duodenal papilla in an 8 year old MN Bassett Hound

An 8-year-old neutered male Bassett Hound dog was presented for evaluation of icterus with a history of swelling of the left pinna 2 weeks prior. Serum biochemistry showed severely elevated ALP, ALT, and AST activity.

 A 3-year-old SF Boxer mix was presented for evaluation of acute onset icterus, vomiting, and anorexia. The only abnormality on urinalysis was bilirubinuria. On serum biochemistry severely elevated ALT activity, elevated ALP and GGT 27 activity, total bilirubin cholesterol, PT and PTT, and pre-and postprandial bile acids were present.

An 11-year-old SF Lhasa Apso was presented for evaluation of icterus and vomiting. Urinalysis revealed severe bilirubinuria. Abnormalities on CBC and serum biochemistry were leukocytosis, and elevated GGT and ALP activity, and total bilirubin. On survey radiographs splenomegaly and gas within the colon were evident.

An 8-year-old MN DSH cat presented for weight loss, anorexia and icterus. Other than icterus th eclinical exam was unremarkable. Total bilirubin 5.6 was elevated along with ALT,  SAP  and prolanged PT and APTT on the coagualtion panel.
