Cystic calculi.

Image Interpretation

DX

Struvite cystic calculi

Outcome

The patient was referred for cystotomy with calculi analysis, urine culture and sensitivity. Cystotomy revealed struvite calculi.

Comments

Bladder stones can be differentiated from colonic artifact by following the bladder wall over the colon in short or long axis. Bladder stones will obscure the visualization of the bladder wall whereas the colon will not, and the bladder wall will be continuous throughout the image.

No video is available on this patient. The patient was lost to follow up.

Clinical Differential Diagnosis

Bladder pathology – cystitis, neoplasia, uroliths, trauma. Renal pathology – pyelonephritis, neoplasia, renoliths. Urethral pathology – neoplasia, calculi, urethritis.

Sampling

Multiple stones were removed during cystotomy. Calculi analysis of the large urinary bladder stones revealed struvite stones.
