RADS – Normal Abdomen with Hematuria in a 12 week old F Labradoodle dog

Presented for hematuria, owner noticed puddles of bloody urine throughout the house when she came home today. Owner is concerned of internal trauma. Currently has had one set of puppy vaccines done by the breeder at 8 weeks of age. No medications noted. Physical Exam: WNL, no overt findings. Urine Analysis:results indicate active UTI.

Image Interpretation

Rads of right lateral, left lateral and VD abdomen- Osseous structures: growth plates open according to the age of the patient
Extraabdominal soft tissue structures: The ventral abdominal wall appeared to be intact.
Intraabdominal structures: The serosal detail was moderately reduced in general which was likely owing to the age of the patient. The retroperitoneal space and region of the urinary bladder neck presented the expected degree of serosal detail accordingly. Both kidneys presented regular for size, shape and position. The urinary bladder was moderately distended and normal in position for a female.
The stomach was moderately distended with food. The liver was beyound the costal arch and pointed.

DX

Radiographically there was no evidence of internal abdominal trauma. There were no radiographic abnormalities. Please note that the ability to assess for free peritoneal fluid is limited owing to the age of the patient. Abdominal ultrasound is recommended to rule out peritoneal effusion and to assess the urinary tract for signs of infection. Ultrasound guided sampling of sterile urine followed by urinalysis including bacterial culture and antibiogram should be enforced as well.
