This 7 year old MN Dachshund has a history of vomiting, ADR and lethargy of 3 days duration; painful cranial abdomen. Vomited a piece of corncob while hospitalized.

DX

Mechanical small intestinal obstruction – likely by foreign material. The material is compatible with corn cob or other soft tissue opaque matter.

Image Interpretation

Segmental dilation of the stomach and upper small intestine with fluid and gas. A moderately dilated population of the small intestine is seen next to a non-dilated population. Abnormal intestinal gas patterns are seen as well as at least one soft tissue opacity with multifocal radiolucent pattern suggestive for luminal small intestinal foreign material.

Outcome

Surgical exploration is recommended. At the time of the radiographic examination there was no evidence of intestinal perforation.
