FNA/cytology of lymph node – The images are excellent collections of lymphoid cells. The lymphoid cells are somewhat varied. There are many
small lymphocytes but they are less than 50% of the lymphocytes present. There are reactive lymphoid cells with
bluish gray cytoplasm. Blastic, atypical cells are not prominent. The reactive lymphoid cells are larger and have
prominent cytoplasm. Scattered neutrophils are observed.
The images suggest markedly reactive lymph node tissue with an antigenic response. There is no suggestion of
high-grade malignancy in the tissue nor are the cells all small lymphocytes to suggest small cell lymphoma. This
lymph node suggests inflammation draining to the lymph node which is likely inflammation from the intestine.
Continued monitoring of the area would be encouraged. Evaluation for inflammatory bowel disease is in order.
