Case Study

Chronic Ulcerative Lymphoplasmacytic Eosinophilic Enteritis in a 6 year old MN DSH cat

This 6-year-old MN DSH was presented for once daily emesis over the preceding 4 days followed by acute exacerbation of vomiting at presentation. The physical exam revealed mildly palpable small intestinal thickening. The CBC was normal with mild elevation of amylase on blood chemistry analysis.

DX

Chronic ulcerative lymphoplasmacytic eosinophilic enteritis

Sonographic Differential Diagnosis

Moderate, assumed focal, small bowel wall thickening.

Image Interpretation

The longitudinal image segment is moderately and slightly asymmetrically thick walled. Loss of bowel wall delineation is also noted. The lumen is empty and contracted, supporting a non-obstructing process.

Outcome

The patient responded well to a long term IBD protocol with uneventful resolution post op.

Clinical Differential Diagnosis

GI pathology – IBD, pancreatitis, trichobezoar, intestinal neoplasia, GI obstruction.

Sampling

Exploratory laparotomy was performed with intestinal resection of the pathological portion of duodenum presented. Histopath: chronic ulcerative lymphoplasmacytic eosinophilic enteritis with associated lymphadenitis.
