Bladder mass in a 14 year old FS DSH cat

Case Study

Bladder mass in a 14 year old FS DSH cat

A 14 year old SF DSH cat was presented for vomiting over the last two weeks and hematuria. On urinalysis, 3+ proteinuria, 3+ hematuria and leukocytosis were evident. Neutrophilia, elevated ALP, and elevated ALT activity were noted on CBC and serum biochemistry, respectively. Elevated T4 (4.6).

Sonographic Differential Diagnosis

Gastric mass with epigastric lymphadenopathy. Possible granulomatous disease, probable infiltrative neoplasia. Separate bladder mass.

Image Interpretation

The stomach presented a 2+cm cranial wall mass with epigastric lymphadenopathy consistent with infiltrative neoplasia such as lymphoma or potential gastric granulomatous disease. Mesenteric root lymphadenopathy was also noted at 1.5cm. The urinary bladder presented a 2.5 cm dorsal trigonal mass or potentially a polyp which was not obstructive at this time. The remainder of the bladder was unremarkable.

Outcome

Patient was lost to follow up.

Clinical Differential Diagnosis

Vomiting – neoplasia, IBD, partial obstruction, infectious (bacteria, fungal, helminths, protozoa), dietary, pancreatic disease (pancreatitis, neoplasia). Elevated liver values – cholangitis/cholangiohepatitis complex, neoplasia, infectious, lipidosis. Hyperthyroidism. Hematuria – neoplasia, cystitis (sterile, non-sterile), uroliths.

Sampling

The owner declined further diagnostics.
