Benign hepatic cyst in a 9 year old FS DSH cat

A 9 year old FS DSH cat presented for dysuria and hematuria. Physical examination was normal. CBC and blood chemistry analysis were normal. The urinalysis presented mild hematuria with otherwise normal parameters.

A 9 year old FS DSH cat presented for dysuria and hematuria. Physical examination was normal. CBC and blood chemistry analysis were normal. The urinalysis presented mild hematuria with otherwise normal parameters.

Sonographic Differential Diagnosis

Benign hepatic cyst.

Image Interpretation

Long-axis view shows a typical benign hepatic cyst of the right liver. Note the thin, continuous wall (arrow), smooth but undulating contour of the cyst border with anechoic content, and distal enhancement artifact.

DX

Benign hepatic cyst.

Outcome

This cyst was not drained because no significant symptoms or mass effect was present. The patient also presented evidence of polycystic kidney disease. The hepatic cyst was an incidental finding. The structure of the urinary bladder was normal. No overt cause of the hematuria was found.

Comments

The patient was lost to follow up. No video is available on this patient.

Clinical Differential Diagnosis

Bladder pathology: UTI, urolithiasis, idiopathic/interstitial cystitis, neoplasia.
