Case Study

06_00324 Abby B Mineralizing urethral mass

A 14-year-old SF Dachshund was presented for evaluation of hematuria.

Sonographic Differential Diagnosis

Urethral mineralization.
Mineralizing urethral mass. This is strongly consistent with transitional cell carcinoma. Ultrasound-guided laser ablation is recommended.

Image Interpretation

The urinary bladder and trigone presented normal wall thicknesses with anechoic urine and normal tone. The pelvic urethra revealed a 2.0 cm mineralizing mass that extended into the cystourethral junction. Focal mineralization was noted. A minor amount of suspended debris was noted. No evidence of inflammatory or neoplastic changes were noted. The ureters were not visible and considered normal.
