Case Study

06_00316 Bella C Cystic calculus

A 9-year-old SF Siberian cat was presented for evaluation of intermittent hematuria and occasional inappropriate urination. Urinalysis showed normal specific gravity, hematuria, proteinuria, and leukosuria.

Sonographic Differential Diagnosis

Bladder calculus. Mild cystitis bladder pattern.
Recommend cystotomy, stone analysis and bladder wall biopsy and culture to assess inflammatory cell type and rule out concurrent interstitial cystitis. Urinary stone culture is recommended.

Image Interpretation

The urinary bladder presented a small calculus that measured 0.57 cm embedded within the cystourethral junction. The bladder wall was slightly thickened. Bladder wall thickness was noted. Minor urinary repletion was noted and measured 0.42 cm.
