Hi, where can I find some review on appropriate techniques for FNA? I find it particularly difficult when the probe is sunk in the abdominal wall in order to reach the target. And the angle is sometimes a problem with a curved array probe.
I would like to review my technique.
Thanks.

Also we have put up some things in you tube

And come by the ACVIM booth 231 Thursday or Friday and I will show you hands on.
In addition at our Puerto Rico Labs we have a sampling station and work on sampling techniques with a phantom and in lab stations during the SDEP program.

Microconvex probes are best to work wiht on fna like the 8c on the GE logic series but you can go from mid probe in larger probes its all about being lined up.

Thanks for your help. I had a
Thanks for your help. I had a look at the resources options and is not quite what I was looking for. I just want to review my technique. Going back to basics. I know FNA are really basic easy stuff but there are two issues I find: liver and splenic samples keep being non diagnostic due to blood contamination. And then… How to put the needle when the whole probe is sunk in between fist and fingers…
The probe I mean is microconvex. It should be easy. Anyway. Thanks for the info:)
I’m trying the abdo Sdep … It’s like a whole new different world… I’m struggling a bit. I hope it’s just a matter of practice…

If you get blood artifact go
If you get blood artifact go down the a 25g and use a siofter motion and change trajectory slightly each time so you arent sampling the same spot you just did because the second and thrid passes will be sampling mini blood pockets that you just created.
re sdep consider the PR seminar in october http://sonopath.com/products/ce-events
we have beginner imtermediate and advanced groups and tailor the table accordingly. keep an open mind and forget your past method for a while til you get the hang of it. It will come… you have to break down old habits before you can get long term efficiency improvements.
Thsi is the method I used to get high end imaging for years on the road when faced with 10-14 clinics and 20-45 cases…. my record was 48 cases in a day… this is how I got through them with every urethra and adrenal and cbd and everything in between. So its focus and coaching initially if the self instruction doesn’t get you there but once you gte it down its a whole new world I assure you.

Oh, thanks for the FNA tip.
Oh, thanks for the FNA tip. I’ll try a 25g next time and the direction change of the needle.
I must admit I haven’t yet tried the whole protocol, so I need more time.of course:) 48 scans in a day… With all the reports?!!!… Speechless… Not sure whether I should smile or cry…;) anyway. I keep improving each time so I’m happy with that.
Unfortunately I cannot make it to any of the meetings. I’m based in Asia and finances are a big factor. May be one day I’ll get to see you and your team in action.

Well maybe we should do an
Well maybe we should do an SDEP Asia seminar:)
Regardless just keep focused and ramp up your speed.
I dictate to transcription so reports are not too bad.

Well, I think it should be
Well, I think it should be considered!!:)) I’m sure it’d be successful!
I actually thought about dictating to transcription! Cause even with templates of records in the end I end up typing every single record cause each case is individual ( unless all normal, of course).
Thank you for info and tips.

The key to trascription is
The key to trascription is having a reliable, consistent, and flexible transcriptionist… I have had 4 in my career and 3 have been solid and with me for years…. hire slowly, fire quickly, keep and support if they are good. Nothing worse than an inconsistent trasncriptionist but once you have one trained they become liek Radar in Mash… they know what you are saying before you say it:)
