Hi Katelyn and welcome! I learned ultrasound scanning by practicing in my clinic whenever I had the chance, pre-sx cases, post-mortem cases, every u/a case that walked through the door, but didn’t really rock my skills until training alongside Dr.Lindquist. I know there is the course in Texas for technicians but most of us do not have the dough-rei-mi to get there or take the time off. If your clinic was willing to send you that would be fabulous and certainly it’s more than beneficial to your clinic. An ultrasound probe on the floor in daily practice is a win win for the practice and your patients! ๐ Depending on your location and his availability, Dr.Lindquist can sometimes train at your clinic as well. But he is kind of the “Where’s waldo of Ultrasound” he is always traveling. ๐

Hi Katelyn, it’s great to have another tech so interested in ultrasound! I encourage you to watch for the details of the February training Dr. Lindquist mentioned, it may be just the ticket for you, especially if you can get one of your doctors to participate also.

If you are motivated you can learn to do this. I am a beginner but getting better all the time. There is no substitute for working with an experienced ultrasonograher. Just being a member of this site is so very helpful.
June Boon- who wrote the book on Echocardiography was a technician and not a DVM. I know you can do it.
There is a good website that I like called: “Mastering Abdominal Ultrasound in Dogs and Cats” by Marc -Andre D’Anjou. I am sharing the link with you. I still view the videos. There is a charge for the site. The problem is recognizing pathology. Sonopaths CD’s and DVD’s are also a great resource.

I actually put myself through an adult echo program but decided to stay in veterinary medicine once I finished my internship! I have a great boss that purchased a machine for our hospital! With the purchase of the machine many companies have education packages also! So even though I was taught human anatomy, knowing the function of the machine was a huge help to me! Sonopath is very helpful with the tutorials on Utube as well! Your passion to learn will get you there!
