The patient is a 29 year old Cockatoo (avian). The parrot was presented due to being not-quite-right and sleeping a lot. Ascites was noted in the abdomen on radiographs.

Sonographic Differential Diagnosis

Liver masses. Secondary ascites owing to portal hypertension, carcinomatosis or similar neoplasia.

Image Interpretation

The liver in this patient presented two large masses. The mass extends for most of the liver and impinged upon the air sac interface. These are non surgical. The contour of the liver was irregular. Echogenic free fluid was noted in the abdomen.

DX

Liver masses. Ascites. Carcinomatosis or similar neoplasia is suspected.

Outcome

None

Comments

Poor prognosis.
