Pulmonary carcinoma diagnosed by lung FNA in a 12 year old FS Kerry Blue Terrier
Sonographic Differential Diagnosis
Thoracic lung nodules and pleural effusion. Suspect carcinomatosis or similar thoracic neoplasia.
Image Interpretation
Echogenic pleural effusion with hypoechoic lung masses was noted in the cranial thorax in this patient. The largest mass measured 2.0 cm in the left cranial lung lobe. Nodular pleural changes were also noted. This is strongly suggestive for thoracic neoplasia.
DX
Pulmonary carcinoma
Outcome
Two months later the patient became dyspneic and was euthanized.
Clinical Differential Diagnosis
Abdominal/thoracic neoplasia, cardiac (pericardial effusion, myocardial failure), insulinoma, Addison’s disease.
Sampling
FNA of the masses and pleurocentesis were performed, revealing pulmonary carcinoma.
