Case Study

Bladder mass in a 13 year old MN mixed breed dog with hematuria

A 13 year old neutered male mixed breed dog was presented for hematuria.

A 13 year old neutered male mixed breed dog was presented for hematuria.

Sonographic Differential Diagnosis

These images are most consistent with transitional cell carcinoma with possibility of fibroma or other connective tissue tumor. This may prove to be resectable. However, the surgeon will have minimal amount of space between the right ureteral papilla and the mass itself in order to allow for adequate closure. There is no overt evidence of metastasis in the abdomen.

Image Interpretation

The urinary bladder in this patient contained a 2.7 x 2.0 cm polypoid mass. The base measured 0.8 cm, and it was 0.5 cm cranial to the right ureteral papilla in essentially an empty bladder. A large blood vessel was present in the middle of the mass.
