An 8-year-old M Labrador Retriever was presented for anorexia dysuria, dyschezia, and hematuria. Physical examination found an enlarged prostate.

Sonographic Differential Diagnosis

Prostatomegaly with target lesions. Primary or metastatic neoplasia or abscessation is suspected.

Image Interpretation

The prostate is visibly enlarged with urethral impingement and colonic deviation in the far field. Multiple mixed hypoechoic target lesions are noted. Neoplastic process is suspected but abscessation is also possible.

DX

Prostatic round cell neoplasia, likely lymphoma

Comments

Similar target expansive lesions were noted in the kidneys typical for metastatic round cell neoplasia.

Clinical Differential Diagnosis

Prostatic disease (benign hyperplasia, acute or chronic prostatitis, abscess, neoplasia), bladder pathology (neoplasia, cystitis, urolithiasis).

Sampling

US-guided FNA of the prostate revealed neoplasia, most consistent with round cell origin, suspect to be a high grade lymphoma.
