AliveCor Heart Monitor

Just wondering if anybody out there is using the AliveCor Heart Monitor that attaches to the iphone and whether or not you like it.  I am trying to decide between this and purchasing the leads for my LOGIQe machine.

Thanks!

Hi Melissa!
Unfortunately, I

Hi Melissa!

Unfortunately, I don’t have any experience with AliveCor. Leads for the ultrasound machine are always a good idea because this makes measurements more accurate… Yet, an ultrasound-ECG cannot replace a conventional ECG (no grid…)

Best regards!

Thanks Peter.  I am thinking

Thanks Peter.  I am thinking I should probably get both.  I like the idea of AliveCor because you don’t have to attach leads to the patient (you hold your phone against the patient’s chest wall) and you can send it to a printer.  Yet, it would also be nice to have a tracing going at the same time as the scan (i.e. for my last patient).

I have clients that love it
I have clients that love it but some cardiologists dont like it because it is only lead 2 so has limitations but if you assess that risk then it is very useful if you take the limitation into consideration. Sonia gordon and mark krause are proponents of it. Others are on the fence…. I actually have it as well and like it but I realize its only lead 2.

I use it to scan suspected

I use it to scan suspected arrythmias. If it looks irregular I hook them up to a multilead EKG. The recording can vary depending how the phone is placed on the chest. I have also used it post euthanasia to make sure the pet is flatline (for some reason this impresses the clients and gives them a sense of finality. They have started to discount the devices- which makes me believe they are not moving. I suspect they had hoped to have practitioners use them and send the EKG’s to their cloud for a cardiologist to read for a fee. There is a reason why EKG’s are not done with just a lead II.

Great idea on the euthanasia

Great idea on the euthanasia use of it Randy. Didnt think of that. I have another cardiologist mandi klemen (http://sonopath.com/about/specialists/mandi-e-kleman-dvm-dacvim) that reads these through the sonopath cardiology service and we have had only one cat that we she had recommended a full strip but otherwise it has been very diagnostic. Playing the odds here and since I don’t intend on doing the cardiopet tech on the phone thing the alive cor has been great. there are a lot of solid cardiologists that use it that are not on the alive cor payroll so I think it is a valid device as long as we can deal wiht the occasional need for a full lead strip mainly in cats.
