solitary cavitated mass

Sonopath Forum

solitary cavitated mass

This is a 7 yr old 156 lb golden retriever. the liver has a rounded contour with multifocal hypoechoic lesions. The capsule is normal none of lesions extended beyond the capsule. in the abdomen was found a rounded cavitated mass not associated with the spleen. there was a thickened bowel loop adjacent. fna was done with clear passes into the mass and fluid taken from the cavitation. the fluid was blood. the mass did not exfoliate well. the path report reads highly cellular mature erythrocytes, lipid droplets, fibrin clots and lymphocytic /histiocytic population-inconclusive.

I’m leaning toward a solitary hemangiosarcoma. I have alos seen such masses related to bowel neoplasia any thoughts ??

I’ve only found and

I’ve only found and documented intestinal HSA once and it was in a cat but a necrotic bowel wall from other neoplasia that encompasses a vessel could fna like this as well. I would cut it out asap if there isnt any other evidence of mets. The infiltrative pattern would suggest more lsa or even lieomyosarcoma (which doesnt exfoliate well typically) with necrosis but a GRET HSA is in the diff for sure.
