Hiatal hernia?

Sonopath Forum

Hi there, I got this case of a French Bulldog 5YO MN 11kg with hx of losing weight. Initially has presented episodes of on and off vomiting and regurgitation with some haematemesis. Body condition 3/9. Physical examination was unremarkable.

Blood work revealed regenerative anaemia, haematocrit of 19 L/L, reticulocytes 10.6 X 10 ⁹ /L, leukocytosis, neutrophilia 14.4 X 10 ⁹ /L. Biochemistry was unremarkable. Urinalysis unremarkable.

Blood work revealed regenerative anaemia, haematocrit of 19 L/L, reticulocytes 10.6 X 10 ⁹ /L, leukocytosis, neutrophilia 14.4 X 10 ⁹ /L. Biochemistry was unremarkable. Urinalysis unremarkable.

On the ultrasound only the pancreas was hypoechoic but not enlarged, but the stomach was difficult to visualise and we noticed that it passes the diaphragmatic-lung interface cranially (see video). We recommended radiographs and this is what we found.

To me looks like hiatal hernia, just wanted to ask:

a) Do you agree?

b) Can you dx through us or this was just luck?

Thanks

Veronica

If there are signs of

If there are signs of bradycephalic syndrome, should also correct that as tends to increase intrathoracic pressures and can worsen the signs of hiatial hernia as well as compromise surgical repair of the hernia. With the regenerative anemia and hematemesis, gastric ulceration is also likley in this case.
