Young cat with big LA

Young cat with big LA

Hi everyone,

I scanned a 1yo MN cat with history of inapetence, lethargy and tachycardia of 220-240 bpm, no murmur or other arrythmias.

What I see is a big LA with probably a clot (it’s difficult to see), but there are no changes with the transvalvular flows or increased LV thickness (maybe of the pap muscles?).

What do you think?

I didn’t start yet any treatment, I was hopeful you could get me some lights with this little fellow…

Thank you!

Im seering a big la and ra

Im seering a big la and ra and a minor amount of pericardial effusion which goes with CHF in cats. The papillaries are echogenic and thick… any chance for infectious/myocarditis?

I dont see any obvious congential defect or overt HCM and really too young for unclassified cmy but thats what it looks like structurally… so what doesnt makes sense and cant fit a category I look for infectious potentials in young cats.

I would tx lasix and plavix for now and maybe clindamycin if infectious is a potential.

Yes, I couldn’t also fit this

Yes, I couldn’t also fit this into any category… There is a chance this might be infectious because this is an outdoor cat that was born a stray cat. The hemogram showed mild lymphocytosis.

In the meantime we already started plavix and lasix, but we’ll also add clindamycin – thanks for the tip EL!

I’m hoping to rescan this cat in a near future so I can give you an update.
