Sonopath Forum

  • 3 yr old female Abysinnian guinea pig
  • PU/PD and hair loss
  • Performed an abdominal US to rule out ovarian cyst and adrenal gland tumor
  • US showed a 1.0cm cyst in the right kidney that may be compressing but not obstructing the proximal right ureter.  I did not find any ovarian cysts or adrenal gland tumors.
  • Has anyone seen renal cysts in a guinea pig before?  My rule outs include benign lesion, neoplasia, and parasitic.  Not sure how to relate it to the patient’s clinical signs other than a potential urinary tract infection.

Actually I see them often and
Actually I see them often and often in ferrets as well. They can get infected but usually not a clinical issue unless occupying the whole kidney. I would look for other causes of pupd and consider uti as well.
