Pancreatic duct ?

Sonopath Forum

  • 10 yr old, 5lb, FS Yorkie
  • Hx of profuse oily stool, fecal incontinence, and ravenous appetite
  • Weight loss and severe muscle wasting

While waiting for the TLI/Cobalamin/Folate test to come back, I did an US on this dog.  I kept finding this mineralization? in the duodenal wall.  Is this the pancreatic duct?

No history of pancreatitis per se, but had always been a super picky eater.  Now she will eat anything and everything.

The TLI came back extrememly low, Cobalamin low, and Folate high.  So I dx EPI and started her on pancreatic enzymes and Cobalamin inj.  1 week into treatment, and she is doing much better already.

Thanks!

Your still image shows a

Your still image shows a mscularis thickening with speckling or mineralization as you count the lines from your arrows toward the near field the arrows indicate serosa then thick speckling muscularis then submucosa so that area in question is duodenum. But outside the serosa there is mineralization as well. Are you sure this isnt the termination of the cbd and not pancreas? Would make more sense with some stones/sand at the cbd termination but panc duct mineralization can occur. If not painful there then likely sequelae from its pancreatitis history or a very odd emerging carcinoma but thats a reach.

Thank you for the

Thank you for the explanation!  Yes, it must be the cbd termination.  I mistakenly thought the pancreatic duct ran alongside the intramural cbd to the d pap….but I see it doesn’t.

Good to know for the next time I see this.  🙂
