Interstitial pancreatitis

Hello

Hank is a 9 year old Shnauzer with long-term diabetes

Presented for ketoacidosis and pancreatitis diagnosed via clinical signs, Spec lipase, and elevated lipase.

Was hospitalized and was improving but has gone down hill and fluid is collecting in the abdomen so we elected for an US.

Moderate to marked amount of free fluid. Found what I believe to be the pancreas. It is markedly abnormal and the most proximal duodenum is thickened. The pancreas appears to be a mixture of hyperechoic parynchyma with anechoic/hypoechoic vein-like structures. There is also a hypoechoic circular area within the field that I was wondering if it is a mesenteric LN or other.

I performed a search of interstitial pancreatitis here and is where I found the term. I was wondering if these images are consistent with it and possible prognosis.

Thanks. Brent.
