Gall bladder

-older poodle mix dog

-presented for episodes of severe intermittent pain

-This dog acts like a dog with SEVERE intermittent cervical or other nerve pain.  However, his back appeared normal on x-rays and his pain really localizes to his cranial abdomen. The pain occurs mostly when being picked up.

-I see the distended, sludge-filled gall bladder with some organization/stone formation.

-The U/S was done with IV butorphanol.  He was still tender in the cranial abdomen but less dramatic than before meds.  However, there was no tracing his bile duct – for me that would require general anesthesia which was not happening on a super-crazy Saturday.

-His ALP and ALT are normal!

-Does the gall bladder explain these intermittent episodes of pain?

Thanks again – I’m having a run of head-scratcher cases.

Looks like sandballs and

Looks like sandballs and dependent debris wiht some suspended debris. I would call this an emerging mucocele and warrants a Gb motility study and some ursodiol for sure:
