Hello,
I’ ve seen this in 4-5 daschunds and I’m still not sure if this is clear pancreatitis vs chronic pancreatitis ( most likelly) or “daschund’s variant”?
This is an 11 years old M/N daschhund that presented with symptoms of HGE. He is 7-8 % dehydrated and slowly responding to triple ab’s, iv fluids, pain meds. Few abnormalities on the scan : splenic nodule, big adrenals and this hyperechoic diffuse pancreas. Same findings all over pancreas: left, body but more pronounced on right limb.
Thank you,

This looks similar to a pancreas I saw recently in a cocker spaniel.
EL thought this was the result of previous bouts of pancratitis.
One week after I posted this on the forum- this dog came in with acute pancratitis secondary to eating chocolate cake with a butter cream topping.
I repeated the ultrasound and all the findings were compatable with acute pancratitis. I plapated a soft ball sized mass in the region of the R horn. I really thought this dog had a poor prognosis- but we pulled her through. The palpable mass is now gone and the dog is feeling great. On WD for life. I am posting the link to my post. Maybe EL or others have another opinion.

I don’t know the cause and
I don’t know the cause and haven’t got any histopath on any, but I’ve seen several look like this too in animals asymptomatic for pancreatic disease. The one I remember the most was also a dachshund. I assumed it was some sort of chronic change. Interesting to see other people have seen it too!

Thank you both. So it is probably due to chronic pancreatitis?!
If anybody have any cytology or histo for this pancreas appearance would be great to see.
