Cystic prostatomegaly and lympadenopathy in a 7 year old male neutered lab

  • 7 year old mn labrador retreiver with long history of tenesmus, now getting worse
  • Dog was already neutered when obtained from a rescue organization 5 years ago
  • Rectal palpation reveals prostatomegaly
  • Abdominal radiographs shows prostatomegaly
  • Abdominal ultrasound shows an irregulary enlarged prostate with multiple anechoic cysts measuring up to 2.0cm in diameter.  There are also elliptoid masses in the region of the medial iliac lymph nodes.

    • Abdominal radiographs shows prostatomegaly
    • Abdominal ultrasound shows an irregulary enlarged prostate with multiple anechoic cysts measuring up to 2.0cm in diameter.  There are also elliptoid masses in the region of the medial iliac lymph nodes.
    • Ultrasound guided fna’s were done on the prostate and enlarged lymph nodes and cytology is pending
    • I suspect this is prostatic carcinoma with secondary prostatitis and mets to the inguinal lymph nodes.  However, because his castration was done elsewhere and he has had tenesmus for years, I am wondering if the elliptoid masses could be retained testicles.  
    • What do you think?
