Clot Vs Mass in Pericardial Sac, how do you tell the difference?

Hi everyone,

16 year old male neutered Heeler that presented for dyspnea.

Ultrasound of the chest revealed bilatera/ pleural effusion as well as pericardial effusion. The Left atrium was subjectively enlarged. Mitral valve was also prolaspe with insufficiency present.

There were echogenic structures within the pericardial sac. I could not identify any cardiac masses around the heart.

Questions:

1. Are we able to tell if there is a rupture in the left atrium?

2. How do we differentiate a blood clot to a mass in the pericardial sac?
