DX

Sialocele

Sonographic Differential Diagnosis

Sialocele. Resection is warranted.

Image Interpretation

The right salivary gland was enlarged with cystic changes or parenchymal proliferation. This measured 3.46 x 2.66 cm. This appears to be encapsulated and consistent with a sialocele. Upon further investigation, with power Doppler, no blood flow was noted to the echogenic material within the sialocele; Therefore, this appears to be echogenic fluid and not tissue proliferation. However, biopsies and culture would be recommended at the time of the sonogram.

Outcome

Not known.

Clinical Differential Diagnosis

Liver value elevations – Vacuolar hepatopathy, reactive hepatopathy, nodular regeneration, chronic-active hepatitis, neoplasia, granuloma. Submandibular mass – Sialocele, abscess, neoplasia, foreign body.

Sampling
