A 12 year old, spayed female, German Shorthaired Pointer was presented for evaluation of a possible hemangiosarcoma or synovial cell sarcoma present on the left hock. Additional history was immune mediated thrombocytopenia and anemia, which at the last CBC, had resolved.

Sonographic Differential Diagnosis

Mass in the left hock. There was no evidence of metastatic disease noted.

Image Interpretation

Images of the left hock revealed evidence of a strongly, vascular, mixed, hypoechoic mass. This appeared to be arising from synovial tissues. This would be most consistent with synovial cell sarcoma or connective tissue derived tumor.

DX

Sarcoma of the left hock

Outcome

The patient had left leg amputation, and was doing well at follow-up.

Clinical Differential Diagnosis

Focal hock neoplasia. Concurrent intra-abdominal metastasis to sub-lumbar lymph nodes, liver, and spleen should be ruled out.

Sampling

Sarcoma.
