Right parathyroid adenoma likely in a 7 year old FS Husky

Case Study

Right parathyroid adenoma likely in a 7 year old FS Husky

A 7-year-old FS Husky was presented for evaluation of a thyroid mass.

A 7-year-old FS Husky was presented for evaluation of a thyroid mass.

Sonographic Differential Diagnosis

The right medial parathyroid adenoma type lesion revealed capsular expansion. This is strongly suggestive for parathyroid adenoma. Ultrasound guided FNA could be considered for further definition.

Image Interpretation

Right medial parathyroid in this patient was enlarged and measured 0.44 x 0.34 cm,  the remainder of the thyroid appeared unremarkable.  The right thyroid measured 1.67 cm x 0.58 cm.  The left thyroid was completely atrophied and appeared subnormal in size.  Heterogenous, parenchymal changes were noted, consistent with likely the outcome from chronic inflammation.  The visible parathyroid appeared normal in this patient, at 0.2 cm.
