Case Study

RADS – Pulmonary Osteomas and Pleural Plugs with Mild Degenerative Changes in a dog

History: First seizure at 10 years of age. History of mass cell tumor being removed some time ago

History: First seizure at 10 years of age. History of mass cell tumor being removed some time ago

DX

The radiographs were within normal limits and negative for metastases. The mineral opaque foci associated with the lung are consistent with pulmonary osteomas and pleural plugs. Only mild degenerative changes of the axial skeleton were evident.

Image Interpretation

right lateral, left lateral and VD thorax – Osseous structures: Overall mild degenerative changes were associated with the axial skeleton including a moderate spondylosis deformans T13/L1, degenerative new bone at the costochondral junctions and mild spondylarthroses.
Extrathoracic soft tissues: Within normal limits. The serosal detail was normal.
The liver was normal for size, shape and opacity.
The splenic head was within normal limits.
The stomach and visible parts of the colon and small intestine contained a small amount of gas.
Intrathoracic structures:
No abnormal widening of the esophagus was noted.
The course of the trachea was normal.
The cardiac silhouette was within normal limits. The major and pulmonary vessels were within normal limits.
There were multiple small and irregular shaped mineral opaque foci distributed throughout the lung parenchyma.
