Case Study

Image Interpretation

Right lateral, left lateral and VD thorax – Occasional bronchial ring shadows are seen throughout the lung. A redundant tracheal membrane is seen in the cervical trachea up tot he cranial thoracic aperture.

DX

• Redundant tracheal membrane • Incidental occasional bronchial pattern

Outcome

No evidence of congestive heart failure or pneumonia. Redundancy of the tracheal membrane is an incidental finding in most cases. Slight degrees of trcheal collapse may be associated with a redundant tracheal membrane.
Consider medical management including cough suppressants and bronchial dilators as a diagnostic challenge. If the clinical signs persist and the patient is refractory further evaluation by tracheobronchoscopy with tracheal wash & BAL may be considered.
