Image Interpretation

Rad of the thorax – The lung field is expanded. Ventral divergence of the ribs is noted as well as widening of the lumbodiaphragmatic angle. The pulmonary vasculature is thin as is the vena cava. The cardiac silhouette is small. The gastrointestinal tract is distended with a moderate amount of gas throughout.

 

 

DX

Hypovolemia with microcardia and underperfusion of the lung

Outcome

No evidence of aspiration pneumonia or esophageal dilation
• Marked subacute to chronic aerophagia – related to stress, pain, dyspnea or a combination of the aforementioned
• No evidence of gastrointestinal obstruction or foreign material as far as included in the views provided
Screening for possible underlying abdominal pathology means of ultrasound is warranted as well as stabilization of the patient as required upon clinical parameters.
