This 12 year old FS Husky mix dog has a history of hypercalcemia.

Chem: elevated calcium, most recently 13.4; ionized calcium 2.39; parathyroid hormone 3.8, PTHrp 0.0.

DX

left cranial parathyroid adenoma; normal right and left thyroid lobes

Image Interpretation

 

 Left cranial parathyroid was enlarged 0.38 cm most consistent with parathyroid adenoma. The remainder of the thyroid measured 0.4 cm in width x 1.5 cm in length. The lesion was confirmed both in short axis as well as long axis. Right thyroid lobe was scanned in short axis; no evident pathology, uniform parenchyma 0.5 cm in width.

Outcome

Recommend surgical resection in this patient.
