DX

Omental or pancreatic abscess.

Sonographic Differential Diagnosis

Omental abscess, pancreatic abscess, or infarcted lipoma. Some inflammation noted with the abscess.

Image Interpretation

The mid-abdomen revealed an abdominal abscess. This is not suspected to be neoplastic and measured 16 x 15.5 cm. This appears to be free floating in the abdomen and is likely deriving from the omentum or pancreas. The mass appeared to be medial to the spleen and did not appear attached.

Outcome

None
