A 6-year-old neutered male French bull dog was presented for evaluation of chronic tenesmus and urinary tract infection.

DX

Mineralizing prostate, strongly suggestive for prostatic carcinoma.

Sonographic Differential Diagnosis

Mineralizing prostate. Prostatic mass. Strongly suggestive for prostatic carcinoma.

Image Interpretation

The prostate was enlarged (measuring 2.21 cm) and mineralized with microcystic changes. Pericapsular inflammatory pattern was also noted.

Comments

If prostatic carcinoma is confirmed, then chemotherapeutic intervention and/or urethral stent placement can be considered. 

Clinical Differential Diagnosis

Prostatic disease – neoplasia, abscess. Disease of lower urinary tract – chronic bacterial cystitis, urolith, neoplasia, granulomatous cystitis.

Sampling

Ultrasound-guided FNA or traumatic catheterization was recommended.
