This 10-year-old FS DSH cat presented for weight loss and anorexia. The physical exam revealed a small palpable caudal abdominal mass. Blood analysis was normal.

DX

Colonic mixed lymphoblastic, lymphocytic lymphoma.

Sonographic Differential Diagnosis

Partially obstructing colonic wall mass consistent with neoplasia such as adenocarcinoma, leiomyosarcoma or possibly lymphosarcoma.

Image Interpretation

A symmetrical, circumferential mural thickening involving a segment of descending colon is present. The affected colonic wall is located centrally and contracted while the adjacent, proximal colon is distended with a normal colonic gas curtain supporting an obstructive component.

Outcome

The patient was treated with Elspar, vincristine, and prednisone.

Clinical Differential Diagnosis

GI pathology – Neoplasia, IBD with lymphadenopathy, intestinal foreign body, granulomatous disease.

Sampling

Subtotal colectomy was performed with complete excision of the mass. Histopathology demonstrated mixed lymphoblastic, lymphocytic lymphoma.
