Case Study

Left cranial parathyroid adenoma in a 12 year old FS Husky mix dog evaluated for hypercalcemia

A 12-year-old FS Husky Mix was presented for evaluation of hypercalcemia. Physical examination and CBC were both normal. Serum biochemistry showed elevated total calcium (13.4) and ionized calcium (2.39) parathyroid hormone within reference range (3.8) and undetectable PTHrP. Urine Analysis (UA): USG 1.039; Sediment quiet at this time.

The lesion was confirmed both in short axis as well as long axis. Right thyroid lobe was scanned in short axis; no evident pathology, uniform parenchyma 0.5 cm in width.

DX
