Intestinal Lymphosarcoma in a 9 year old FS Golden Retriever dog

Case Study

Intestinal Lymphosarcoma in a 9 year old FS Golden Retriever dog

Sonographic Differential Diagnosis

Small bowel mural mass consistent with neoplasia. The annular appearance with an obstructive component is commonly seen with adenocarcinoma; however, a round cell tumor cannot be definitively ruled out.

Image Interpretation

The image demonstrates a longitudinal segment of small bowel with moderate echogenic distension (proximal) and mildly attenuating material positioned distally. Distally, the segment of small bowel is focally, markedly, circumferentially thick walled with complete loss of wall layering, resulting in significant luminal narrowing.

DX

Intestinal lymphomosarcoma

Outcome

The patient was treated with a rescue protocol with Adriamycin, and prednisone with poor results and declining clinical status. The owner elected euthanasia as opposed to surgical resection and further treatment.

Clinical Differential Diagnosis

GI pathology – Escape from lymphoma remission, gastroenteritis, other neoplasia, foreign body, parasitic disease. Blood loss from gastric hemorrhage likely owing to history.

Sampling

18 ga US-guided biopsy revealed lymphosarcoma.
