Intestinal Lymphoma in a 14 year old MN cat

A 14-year-old MN cat was presented for weight loss and intermittent vomiting. A small-mid abdominal mass was present on physical examination. Abnormalities on CBC were neutrophilia, monocytosis, and lymphocytosis. Serum biochemistry was within normal limits.

DX

Intestinal lymphosarcoma with involvement of jejunal lymph nodes

Image Interpretation

Examination of the gastrointestinal tract presented an 8.0 cm long infiltrative portion of small intestine with loss of mural detail. Mesenteric root lymph node mass was also noted and measured 3 x 2 cm.Distal small intestinal infiltrative pattern. Mesenteric root lymphadenopathy

Outcome

After receiving the results of the cytology the owner elected to humanely euthanize the pet.

Clinical Differential Diagnosis

Palpable mass – neoplasia/granuloma/abscess/cyst in any of the following organs: spleen, stomach, intestine, kidney, pancreas, lymph node, mesentery. Vomiting – intestinal obstruction

Sampling

Fine needle aspirates of the mass and mesenteric lymph nodes were submitted to a laboratory. The cytological interpretation of the sample revealed lymphoma.
