Hepatic Carcinoma in a 13 year old MN DLH cat

The patient is a feline DLH, MN, 13 years The patient has a poor appetite and distended abdomen.

Sonographic Differential Diagnosis

Abdominal carcinomatosis, lymphomatosis type presentation with concurrent hepatic mass.

Image Interpretation

The abdomen in this patient presented a mixed, nodular omental mass that encompassed the pancreas and enveloped the upper gastrointestinal tract. The gastrointestinal tract itself did not reveal any primary pathology. A moderate amount of free fluid was noted in this patient and was sampled via ultrasound-guided cystocentesis and cytospin was performed with slide preparation. The liver presented a 2.5 cm left medial hypoechoic mass that was sampled by FNA. Mild, irregular hepatic changes were also noted.

DX

Cytology revealed hepatic carcinoma.

Outcome

Poor prognosis.The patient was euthanized.

Neoplasia, FIP, liver failure, right heart failure, peritonitis, hairball impaction

Sampling

FNAs were performed for confirmation. Cytology revealed hepatic carcinoma.
