CT – Pulmonary carcinoma with interstitial, bronchoalveolar and mediastinal lymph node metastases in a 6 year old M Doberman Pinscher

Case Study

CT – Pulmonary carcinoma with interstitial, bronchoalveolar and mediastinal lymph node metastases in a 6 year old M Doberman Pinscher

This 6 year old M Doberman Pinscher dog has a history or pulmonary carcinoma

This 6 year old M Doberman Pinscher dog has a history or pulmonary carcinoma

DX

The computed tomographic findings of the thorax are consistent with a malignant neoplasia of the lung with multifocal interstitial and bronchoalveolar metastatic spread as well as metastatic spread to the mediastinal lymph nodes

Image Interpretation

CT of the thorax – The computed tomography of the thorax reveals a large mass lesion with heterogenous
contrast enhancement infiltrating the entire left caudal lung lobe. The lung parenchyma
is displaced completely. A marked mass effect is recognized in bronchial compression
and rightward mediastinal shift.
The remainder of the lung parenchyma presents multiple ill-defined interstitial nodules
of varying size throughout. Moreover a multifocal bronchoalveolar infiltrate is noted
throughout the lung.
The cranial mediastinal and tracheobronchial lymph nodes reveal moderate
enlargement with loss of the regular short-to-long axis ratio and general architecture as
well as heterogenous contrast enhancement consistent with a malignant pattern.

Outcome

The findings parallel the
history of a pulmonary carcinoma.
The prognosis is poor. Unfortunately, surgery is not an option in this case.
