Bates body in a 8 year old MN DSH cat with an inflammatory bowel presentation and pancreatic remodeling

This 8 year old MN DSH cat presented with blood in stool and some diarrhea. Bloody spit/phlegm

Image Interpretation

The stomach was filled with ingesta, some of which was progressively shadowing.
This may have some component of hairball accumulation. Soft stool was noted in the
colon. The colonic wall was structurally unremarkable. If the patient was n.p.o. at the
time of the sonogram I would be suspicious of hairball accumulation. The intestinal
wall did not reveal any significant loss of detail. However, submucosal echogenicity
was increased. Mucosal speckling was noted in the small intestine, which may indicate
lymphangectasia or inflammatory bowel. The pancreas presented a significant amount of echogenic, coarse remodeling. Bates body that measured 0.58 cm was noted in this patient with distinct shadowing. No regional inflammation was noted.
